TikTok, the widely used social media platform, is accused of transferring users’ personal information to its ultimate owner, China. Former employees claimed that TikTok continued to operate under a profit-driven model separate from the Chinese Communist Party, despite attempts to distance itself from its parent company, Bytedance.
The information reportedly included the users’ personal data including their names, emails, demographics, and locations, according to the report. Regarding the allegations, TikTok firmly denied them, stating that all data on US users has been isolated since January 2023, with close monitoring by the US Data Security team.
The Chairman and the CEO Jeffrey Edell of MeWe, one of the social media platforms operating on a blockchain infrastructure, advocates blockchain for addressing privacy matters and providing a safe environment for the users.
Edell suggests that using blockchain for distributed control in cryptocurrency can empower users to own their data, reducing risks linked with centralized control.
